With the news that the Phillies would be shopping Castellanos, I figured a Trout to Philly suggestion would be coming. It does make financial sense and baseball sense as well. For the ownership, they would make a boatload off Trout. Once on the team, every fan would be clamoring for a Trout jersey for Christmas. Coming off another playoff run and having a marquee name would only add to ticket sales and every chance for a milestone would be a sellout and marketing dream. In the short term, they are only adding 8.5 million to the payroll, so it wouldn't kill their lux tax outlook. I don't like the prospects of having Trout, Harper, and Turner in their late 30s all making between 20 and 30 million, but the world might end by then anyway. On the field Trout would fill a need as well. The team has a lot of free swingers, including Castellanos. The biggest downfall for the team was how they ambushed pitchers in game 2 of the NLCS and swung out of their shoes for the rest of the series. Trout is a patient-high OBP player. For the Halos it is salary relief. Even with bringing back Castellanos and paying down 5M per year of Trout's contract, they would save 140M over the life of the contract. They get an All-Star back who would come close to Trout's production and it would let the franchise completely turn the page assuming that Ohtani leaves via FA.
