The uoside of trading McGarry to acquire a 31 year old, weak hitting 2b/LF and a pitcher who has foyund it a challenge to get his ERA below 5.00 is......................what exactly?
Agreed. This is basically the A's paying Kemp/Snead/$9M (Kingery is worse than roster fill at this point) for 35-command McGarry.
Salary relief. Phillies save $9M so they can allocate it more effectively elsewhere on the roster.
Money is not a problem; it is actually one of the assets with which Sam & Dave are working in the offseason. The weakness is prospects (though less of one than previously), so giving up a potential prize to offload Kingery's contract makes little sense.
