1These trades are tough to evaluate in my opinion. The Rays basically have 2-3 fWAR players at every position, so improving the position player side of the roster requires them to go up the value chain to guys like Tatis (the 150-160 wRC+ version from 2019-21, not last year's 113 wRC+ version), which is crazy expensive. If the Rays were a totally complete team, I'd be all over this trade, but they aren't. The Rays need to improve their catcher position in the worst way and they need pitching, pitching and more pitching, and with $100MM in trade chips to play with, the Rays could really improve catching and pitching. Which direction makes the Rays a better team though? For my money, I'd prefer to improve catching and pitching for the current Rays' team.
