Cleveland is not going to sell out their farm system for an outfielder that they don't absolutely need and other assorted parts. Cleveland is not going to trade Espino and Williams. An easy no here from the Guardians.

thepiratesjones

Lol, you don't know that. It's not like there isn't 100 years of Baseball history that isn't littered with bad trades. Lol, Ortiz and Gonzales aren't assorted parts either. They're both promising prospects, just not as good as the ones that Cleveland has. If you don't know the players are just don't waste your time commenting.

BigBat

Yes he does and so do you. Cleveland needed Reynolds last year and the deal was squelched when the demand from Pittsburgh was Espino. Now you want them to give Espino and Williams for the same OFer that has 1 less year of control who also experienced a decline in performance last season. Not only do you want 2 of the best SP prospects in the game who are almost ready, you'd like to have a top 100 OF prospect who is almost ready and last year's 1st round pick who should easily end up in the top 100 next year. This trade is ridiculous and Pittsburgh can pound sand. Cleveland no longer needs Reynolds.

Yes, I do know that since Cleveland has been unwilling to trade Espino and Williams in past deals last offseason, at the deadline, and so far this offseason. Sean Murphy was a definite target of the Guardians at the deadline and this offseason. No trade happened because of the asking price. And catcher was a position of need while outfield is currently not.

Why would Cleveland trade for Reynolds when they have the best defensive CF and LF in the game in Straw and Kwan... Kwan got ROY votes plus has become a legit leadoff guy. Gonzalez put up what 125 OPS+ with 2.1 WAR (with a negative fielding) in 91 games. Reynolds makes no sense, unless Pirates are willing to take a deal around Gonzalez and Allen, and not ask for any of their top 6 prospects... Espino, Williams, Bibee, Valera, Naylor and Rocchio aren't going to be available in a Reynolds deal..

Cleveland has got to be the most prospect-huggy fanbase on this site by far.

I also wanted to add, Cleveland has a few of their prospects pretty much not available in any deal and those are the guys people keep targeting... Espino, Williams, Bibee and Bo Naylor are not available period... Valera, Rocchio, Angel Martinez, Brennan, DeLauter, Arias, are only available in a deal for an All-Star at a position of need and team control. Which they don't have a position of need at the moment. It's just wants aka maybe an upgrade at certain spots. Those 11 really aren't going anywhere more than likely...

A small market will not contend if their farm system isn't strong. Look at the price that bad pitchers are getting in this market. Cleveland needs to retain their top prospects to be competitive. Expecting them to trade their two top pitching prospects is ridiculous, especially when it is not filling a need.

BigBat

Then offer something of need instead of requesting their best prospects by returning what you want to give. Better yet, have Pittsburgh give their best, near ready prospects for players that don't really fill a need. You need to also take into consideration that all of Cleveland's rotation minus McKenzie will reach FA by 2026. Bieber will be a FA in 2025. Why would any team that cannot carry a $200+ payroll trade away their best SP prospects that are all in the upper levels? Especially when a truckload of turnover is about to occur?

Naw, Cleveland has the most prospect-huggy FO in baseball. Our FO doesn't like to trade prospects unless it nets them exact what they want... And this trade makes absolutely no sense for Cleveland... Reynolds also is no longer a need, plus the Pirates wants one of Cleveland's top 3 SP prospects plus more prospects. Cleveland wouldn't offer that for Murphy, who is actually a need for the roster. Let alone trade a bunch of top prospects like in this deal. Trust me there is a bunch of Cleveland fans wanting/willing to part with most of our prospects to get MLB talent, but we know our FO isnt willing to do that...

You all need to relax. You're not MLB GMs. This isn't that serious. And there's one thing that people have proven they have been terrible at throughout the entire course of written history and that's predicting the future. Anyone who claims they know what will or won't happen is a fool. You can have all of the best available information at your disposal and at best you've got an educated guess. However, life is more complicated than that and it shows every year, but people for some reason seem to forget it.

Then why provoke an argument in the first place. I have followed the Guardians since 1965. I read a great deal and understand how Cleveland's current front office has operated. Life may be complicated for you, but Big Bat, Sportscoach, and I all understand how Cleveland is very likely to act. We may not always agree whether they are right in what they do, but we know clearly how they tend to respond.

thepiratesjones

You fools are the ones provoking the argument suggesting that you know what will happen. You can read all you want but the only way you're guaranteed to know what will happen is to be the GM. Which none of you are.

BigBat

Nothing is guaranteed and all we're doing is making predictions based off previous behaviors. Are we fools for declaring what has already happened? Are you a fool for thinking that which has already passed will all of a sudden happen? Does this ridiculously stupid trade make sense for Cleveland? You posted this idea on a public forum and then you want to criticize people for stating the obvious. I've made proposals on here that while not intentional were not fitting for the other team. Fans of those teams were critical and rightfully so. I didn't take offense from it and actually used it as a learning experience. Being the GM is not the only way to know what will happen. There are a lot of people under the GM and each of those people know lots of people too, and so on. Again, your assessment is wrong........fool.
