1I know the Marlins are likely “big game hunting,” but I think teams are savvy enough to understand that the Marlins are desperate to add offense before their pitchers all hit arbitration. For the Fish to get their money’s worth, they could take a depth approach. The Cubs get Cabrera, who should be an interesting puzzle to solve in their Pitch Lab and who has considerable team control. Madrigal gives a contact approach and average defense at 2B that lets Chisholm move to CF. Canario is still recovering from a shoulder and ankle injury, but should be ready to step in at CF halfway into the 2023 season. Meanwhile, Sampson gives the Marlins depth in the rotation or bullpen and has three minor league options.
