This is the kind of trade that looks good on paper but would never happen in real life. Aranda and Mervis are both lefty 1B, with Aranda having a better hit tool and Mervis having a bit more power. Aranda is considered the better prospect by most, but Mervis looks like a 1B, standing 6’4 to Aranda’s 5’11, and is probably the better defender long term. But all that is irrelevant. Teams simply don’t trade top prospects for top prospects, and on the few occasions when they do, it’s not a swap of guys at the same position.

Hard, hard pass on this. Mervis is way undervalued, even as a long side platoon guy. He will likely struggle early, but has shown the consistent ability to adjust and perform. He looks like a Rizzo type player and hitter, albeit slightly older because of COVID gaps, and should be closer to a "30" as a floor value.
