1With the Red Sox reluctant to move Tristan Casas (especially after the extension with Devers), the Marlins may turn to another potentially available major-league ready 1B bat: Matt Mervis for the Cubs. In this deal, the Marlins use their pitching depth to bring aboard two very low cost infield hitters. Mervis can man 1B or DH and provide potentially a cornerstone bat while Madrigal can provide that contact bat the Marlins have been seeking and slot in at 2B, allowing Chisholm to slide around the field. In return, the Cubs receive a good lefty bat and defender in Joey Wendle, who would be their Opening Day 3B and allow Christopher Morel to return to a true UT role. They also bring in a potential ace in Edward Cabrera, who could thrive in a similar pitching development system with the Cubs.
