Making 3 rebuilding teams better at once

Down vote for Oakland. Xavier Edwards, Nolan Jones, and Elehuris Montero all have serious red flags and should be avoided. Cleveland was desperate for power bats and had 84 MI prospects, so why do they flip Jones for another MI prospect unless they think his swing and miss issues are too much to overcome? Edwards has no power and there are multiple reports that his speed is starting to regress. Montero is more 1B than 3B, is out of minor league options, and hasn't exactly established himself as a line-up mainstay. I haven't heard an explanation for Groshans absolute power outage in 2022.

Interesting take. Which players should the A's target in trading Laureano, Kemp, Brown, Irvin, Blackburn and Kaprelian, who all have no place on the future team and must be traded sooner than later? I think this return is fine if you look at who they gave up. Sure these aren't 70 grade prospects, you aren't going to get better than these guys.

Oakland should hold on to Laureano and Blackburn, let them try and rebuild their trade value in 2023. And I'm not asking for 70 Grade prospects for Irvin, Brown, Kemp, Kaprelian (who had shoulder surgery and might not be available by Opening Day, Buyer beware) but I would ask for players/prospects that have upside, even if they're 2-3 years away. General rule: when in doubt, get guys who don't need to be on the 40 man in 2023 and don't take prospects who are out of minor league options (Montero). I pitched Brown to Tampa for Mason Auer and Vidal Brujan; Auer has the tools to maybe end up a 60 grade prospect but he's not there today. I haven't found a solid deal for Irvin but I think Nolan Jones ends up a platoon COF and I'm not dealing a durable SP making league-minimum for that. Here again I'd prefer to build a deal around a high-ceiling prospect that hasn't played above the low minors. Kemp could go for an interesting arm that doesn't need a spot on the 40 man this year.

"General rule: when in doubt, get guys who don’t need to be on the 40 man in 2023 and don’t take prospects who are out of minor league options (Montero)." Who's "rule" is this? LMAO grow up

Your proposal has the A's trading 4 players off their 40 man roster and adding 5, meaning they have to release a PTBNL. None of Jones, Montero, Bleday impressed during their big league debuts and they all have spotty track records in the minors. Edwards and Groshans struggled in AAA. If you take a prospect who doesn't need to be on the 40 man but he kicks ass in the minors and you want to promote him to the big league club then you end up adding the player based on their success. If you take a guy like Montero, who has no options remaining, he's locked onto the 26 man roster. If he performs poorly you're only choices are to stick him at the end of the bench and hope he can figure things out without game experience or risk exposing him to the waiver wire in order to send him down to the minors. How dumb would it be to lose 10 million in player value through the waiver process just a few short months after you acquire the player?
