Would love to see the Rays acquire Reynolds. If they do, I think a pitcher would have to be involved though.

Looks like Pirates fans aren't on board at all. But I think this works both ways - gives the Rays a plus outfielder (and addresses some of their perpetual 40-man issues), gives PIT a plus prospect (Hayes is clearly the 3B of the future and 2B feels like a stretch for Mead, but the bat plays), gives PIT a young/high-upside lottery ticket (I don't think they are playing solely for 23/24; the window should extend), gives PIT a credible OF to appease the fan base (if they are up for signing Santana, they should be up for Margot).

This deal would make the Pirates worse in the short term with the downgrade to Margot and doesn’t address the need for starting pitching. Mead is a good hitting prospect but is without a defensive position. The Pirates were already a poor defensive team last year. Bringing in another 1B/DH type doesn’t help. I think a deal with the Rays has to start with a starter like Bradley. I am not saying the value isn’t fair. It just doesn’t meet the Pirates needs and they are in a position to wait on a deal that does fit their needs.

I hear you. But getting worse this year from trading Reynolds is a foregone conclusion. Getting Margot back would make them less-worse in 2023 than they would be in most trades for him you'll see floated. I don't think I understand why they signed Santana, but if you are going to something like that to stay moderately successful in 2023, then Margot fits the bill. If I am the Pirates I am more focused on value than on the shape the value comes it - ie, hitter vs pitcher; I don't know why they'd be solely focused on the latter. And yes, they can "wait for a deal" - but so far the only thing that waiting this past year has gotten them is a 62-win season and a material decline in Reynold's trade value. I think waiting much past Opening Day would be a mistake. (I don't see the Rays putting Bradley in a deal like this, but maybe there's something to build around Baz if that's more to Pittsburgh's liking. He'll miss 2023 but could be a high-end guy after that.) Try this on for size: https://www.baseballtradevalues.com/trades/trade-111405/

I like this deal better. But Williams K rate is scary and Wilcox health history is terrifying.

Sort of amusing that the Pittsburgh-side comment is effectively that these pitchers aren't enough - while the Tampa-side comment that shows up in the linked post is that these pitchers are too much!: "Rays aren’t trading 3 top pitchers in one trade, no matter how good Reynolds is."

Hey - That’s my comment. 😀

As a Rays fan, I think the Eflin signing puts Bradley in play for trades, and with the Rays sending signals they might want to trade Aroz, acquiring Reynolds makes a ton of sense to me.
