I will be stunned if this one doesn't happen on day 1 of the Winter Meetings !!
You have to laugh at the irony of this proposal: the Yankees looking to the A’s for financial relief. Using the average annual value of Stanton’s contract as a guide (I don’t know the actual pay out schedule of his deal), he is owed 25 mil over the next 5 years. This would cripple the A’s financially, such that their rebuild would likely continue for the duration of Stanton’s stay. They’d be trading away prospects as they reached arbitration, never mind free-agency. That said, I agree wholeheartedly with the principle of the A’s taking on an underwater contract to sweeten a prospect return. This one is waaay too aggressive for Oakland, though.
Yes. I love the role reversals and could not resist posting it. Having Stanton 6 years as righty DH solves a multi -year roster weakness and these prospects fit into the timeline to next run of competitiveness. Revenue Sharing over these next 4 seasons may near $25 mil / $50 / $75 / $100. So. Never say never! lol NYY use prospects to acquire vets so it fits their roster mechanics.
