4Brewers say no to the collection of maybes whose ceiling projects to be the swing man type. Brewers would rather use Houser as part of a much better trade.
O's say no also. O's organizational depth is low in SP. These 3 guys all have potential as SPs (but agree with jmont- they are "maybes/potential swing men"). For O's to trade for Houser, it's going to have to come out of their prospect position player depth. I've tried to construct a trade but I don't see a match for O's/Brewers for Houser. Of note Fangraphs has Houser penciled in as a LR (Long Reliever) aka "swing man."
Cionel Perez may or may not be available, but probably not right away. Perez actually was very good last year, and didn't exhibit control problems (21BB/57.2 Inn) (3.28 BB/9). I don't know if he can repeat that though, since he had a history of wildness. O's have 2 other LH's in the bullpen, plus one injured. Nick Vespi LHRP is out until mid-season due to unplanned hernia surgery. Their other two LHRP are Keegan Akin who might be available, and DL Hall who is definitely not available.
Appreciate the input of an Orioles fan. It appears the Brewer fans believe that the Brewers need an immediate MLB-ready player for Houser. I saw the need for a SP in the Orioles, but also saw the lack of pitching in the prospects. I took the ones with the best-looking upside, although all have quite a bit of risk. Would the Orioles trade Cionel Perez? The Brewers could use a LHRP, but the O's don't have too many and Perez doesn't always throw enough strikes. Houser is the 6th starter, listed here as long reliever. Historically, Houser has started 58 out of 62 games over the last 3 years.
