Braves say yes before Yankees can take it back. Braves add almost $9M AAV to their luxury tax, but Yankees pay 3 of that. Braves "give up" Anderson, who is anywhere from AAAA starter to #3 SP, but is projected to be fighting for the 5th spot in the Braves rotation. They also give up Franklin and Shewmake OF and SS prospects with minimal shine and just dreams. They exchange 2 years of Ozuna for 5-6 years of Stanton in the DH slot in the lineup. Stanton will never be asked to play the field, I'd imagine. If that weren't enough, the Braves also get Volpe and Dominguez to fill holes in LF and SS with Yankees-hyped prospects that may or may not pan out, but are currently highly touted. Very little risk in this scenario, basically they can be thought of as mitigating the risk associated with 3-4 extra years of Stanton on the roster. If he becomes sunk cost, then at least they have cheap players that can probably be plugged into the Major League roster. For the Yankees, um they drop about $6M AAV from their luxury hit, they free up almost $100M of actual salary ($130M guaranteed salary for Stanton vs. $37M guaranteed for Ozuna), potentially fill the Montas question marks with Anderson, still have Peraza to man SS. Franklin and Shewmake become just MiLB filler that may turn into something, but don't move the needle tons. If the Yankees are down with this assessment, I think the Braves should go for it. (Braves fan speaking here).
