8Rays have no interest in this trade. Siri is the better player with more years of control. Rays wouldn’t swap Siri for O’Neill in a 1 for 1 trade, to say nothing of including Williams too.
hey maybe Im wrong, but what Siri you looking at? lower sprint speed this season, and his xWoBA+ is well below average. His hard hit rate is also down. This is also true with paedres and francisco mejia.
I'm looking at the Siri who plays CF as well as KK did in his prime. I'm looking at the Siri who put up 6 DRS and 13 OAA in CF playing only 750 innings last year, and already has 3 DRS and a surprisingly low 1 OAA this year. I'm looking at the Siri who has a 108 wRC+, 0.6 bWAR and 0.4 fWAR this year, while missing 1/2 the year because of a hamstring injury that is now healed. This guy is a 4 win player with his level of defense. I've expressed my thoughts on O'Neill a few times already. He's terribly inconsistent, hitting 70, 81, 92, 101, 116 and 144 wRC+ in his 6 seasons. I don't think you can count on him to be even average at the plate with that track record. So is he a defensive stud? Not really. He had a good 2 year period from 20-21, but the rest of his career is just a solid defender (and this year he's grading negative in the field, with -2 DRS and -1 OAA in CF, and 0 DRS and -1 OAA in LF). For the life of me I can't figure out how he has $32MM trade value. Not that it matters, the Rays have no interest trading Siri.
I regress, I see your point. To be honest, I value offencive preformences more than speed, OAA, ect. As a Phillie fan, I really did not know about his injury. The first game I ever went to O'neil hit a grand slam, so I favor him for personal reasons. I will look into his stats closer now.
I get that. He’s got the talent to be an all-star. Maybe a change of scenery is all he needs. Realistically though, that won’t be with the Rays. They have a good outfield as is with Aroz, Siri, J.Lowe, Raley, Margot and H.Ramirez. Rays need pitching, primarily relievers, and that’s about it.
"Rays need pitching, primarily relievers, and that’s about it." Well IF a opprentity would arise, I would also advise to upgrade at Catcher. Also, the pitching part: I don't see why we would need to get more starting pitching, glas will come back, and we will have 4 ace-like players. For the 5th, we could retry Taj, or maybe just fall back to yonny chistons, who, in my opinion is very underrated. For the relievers, I think we should just promote from the insdie.
I agree with you that the catchers are doing better than expected. Beth is doing really well is paticular, but Id rather see a tee ball player bat then mejia, and he has horrid pop time. Atleast give pinto another try.
LOL.. I've beat the catcher drum for 2 years. Rays just don't prioritize that position the way us fans want. Beth and Mejia might provide 2-4 WAR this year, and that'd be awesome (better than I expected before the season started), but damn it would have been nice to acquire S.Murphy over the Winter (particularly for the sad return the A's received for him). Like you, I'm generally fine with a 5 man rotation of Glas, McClanny, Eflin, Ras, Bullpen Day and Bradley at some point in the 2nd half. When the post-season comes, I don't think there's a better 4 man group than Glas, McClanny, Eflin and Ras. So the only reason to acquire another starting pitcher is depth, unless the Rays lose another of their top arms. Things might be different then. Rays will definitely promote relievers as the season progresses; however, if Fairbanks is lost for the season, the Rays will need to go outside the organization for a high leverage arm for the post-season. They might want to do that even if Fairbanks is fine. It's not something that needs to happen in May though.
