1E. Rod is expected to miss 6-to-8 weeks due to a ruptured pulley in his left index finger. Seems doubtful that a team would trade for him unless that changes. Plus, I think his opt-out builds in too much downside for him to get traded and I think that with the way he had been pitching he was/is trending towards opting out. The acquiring team has to accept the possibility that he could leave next winter while being saddled with the downside of three years and $49MM if he stumbles or gets hurt (again) in the second half. It’s not impossible, but it’s quite a bit riskier than trading for a straight rental. I don’t see the Pirates taking this chance.
