5Aranda is killing it in AAA. .326 .446 .532 with 9 HRs. His 2B fielding has been improved (From '22 4 errors to '23 1 error.) Seattle has 27th WAR from 2B. Woo can plug into TB's 5th starter or setup man with his stuff. Needs for needs.
I like this trade for both teams. Trade a prospect for a prospect at areas of need for each team.
Seattle is 27th in WAR at 2B because of Kolten Wong's -1.3 WAR. His replacement, Jose Caballero, has been worth over 1 WAR in 40 games since he's taken over at 2B. Woo's value is going to sky rocket soon. He's got the ceiling of a no. 2/3 in a serious rotation, not a no. 5. They aren't going to trade coveted starting pitching for a 25 year old who is still in AAA.
This Woo kid certainly has a lot of love on BTV. Fangraphs and MLB aren’t overly impressed, with both services giving him only 1 plus pitch. It will be interesting to watch him develop. He’s certainly having a good 2023 but is that sustainable? As for Aranda, he’s only in AAA because he’s blocked at the next level. He’s ready for the Show.
He throws 94-98 and allowed 3 hits/punched out 9x Sox batters over 5.2 last night in his 3rd career start. They aren't trading him for a 25-year-old AAA player w. a career OPS of .847 in the minors. Pitching is WAY too hard to come by and they'd field far better offers from teams who are desperate. If the M's trade any of their young players, it will be for established MLB talent. Not rookies who are blocked. Especially not rookies who haven't cracked the ceiling at 25.
