1Jays: They need two SP's and are apparently planning on doing so. Once that happens, it's unlikely they'd want to carry both Kikuchi and White in the pen. This trade would open up a rotation/pen spot for room an established SP, and also shave off 2.75 in real payroll this year and 3.5 in lux tax payroll. They'd be getting a guy who has been bad but has hit lefties solidly and could be a reclamation guy off the bench. Royals: It's no secret they need a lot of arms. For a price of 2.75 this year, 1 mill next year, and a spare part who hasn't had success, they'd be gaining a high upside arm who they have time to work with. With the player friendly FA and especially pitching market, hard to see them turning down a high upside arm for very cheap. Seems like a win-win, with Kansas gaining an upside arm and the Jays gaining small payroll room and an important rotation spot.
