2Rays make their splash. The Padres are still a very desperate team, so they’ll want a majority of the return to be MLB or MLB-ready players
I can't see either team doing this deal. The Padres don't want quantity in return for Soto, they want high quality (if they're even willing to trade Soto, and I doubt they are). The Rays on the other hand are unlikely to trade Raley, their best bat in 2023 and under control for 6 more years. The difference between Raley and Soto on the field this year is pretty much a wash. I would be shocked if the Padres traded Soto and even more surprised if the Rays were the team that acquired Soto.
