9It's ultimately going to end up as an over pay for the Rangers because the money the Mets send will end up being much less than that. But Rangers are trying to win this year and Scherzer was probably the best gettable name out there.
Pretty even trade for both sides. Rangers get one of the few reliable postseason starters on the market for a pennant race and basically on a 1 year 22 million dollar deal next year. Mets get a future everyday 2B. Scherzer's remaining contract basically covers Degrom's recovery time from TJ, then once Degrom is back in late 2024, early 2025 Scherzer will be on his way out.
Feel like the Mets come out on top here considering their financial capabilities. They actually shed salary off a big payroll and the money that remains won’t hind their owner from spending more. That for a top prospect with big upside.
Acuna's not really a prospect with high upside, moreso high floor considering the lack of power, size, and lacking plate discipline. Good defense and contact hitter tho. Reminds me of IKF. Gladly willing to move him for an ace under cheap control for another year.
Real trade.
Texas will owe Scherzer $22.5 MM, with the Mets paying down the rest. https://twitter.com/martinonyc/status/1685449595009069058
Right, which means the Mets are paying $36ish.
Disagree. A big chunk of it is presumably conditional on Scherzer opting in, but no other team in their right mind would pay him more than $43.3M for his age 40 year when he's clearly in decline, so it's a near certainty.
He has agreed to opt in for 2024 as part of the trade.
