3I like Sewald, but not at the expense of B.Lowe. Lowe is heating up and if he has the kind of 2nd half that he's capable of, his trade value returns to the $40MM range where it belongs. Rays aren't selling low on him unless there is tremendous upside in the guys coming back. That doesn't exist in this trade. Sewald is good, but he's fully valued too. Murphy is a pure rental and DeLoach is a AAAA prospect. There's no upside here. Rays say no.
And what are you guys going to do with Mead, Caminero, Basabe? Just keep in them in AAA? The Rays have never been in the business of selling off cheap, controlled players. They've always been in the business of selling off players as they get expensive. Lowe is blocking all 3 of these guys from the majors, becomes sort of expensive, and has an problematic injury history.
That's a problem for another day. Rays are looking to make the playoffs and win in 2023.
