3I'd like a better complementary piece than Barco if I'm the Rays, but landing Davis for B.Lowe would be pretty awesome.
The question with Davis is; where does he play? Would the Rays try to develope him as a Catcher? He really got thrown into RF on the fly. He reminds me of H Ramirez in the field and overall attitude. He is challenged defensively, but his makeup is +++. For the Pirates, you play BLowe at 1b, 2b, and DH. If the Pirates end up securing another !B, you still play Lowe at 2b. It's a relatively short porch in RF and an expansive LF in PNC. His lhb coupled with Reynolds, Cruz, Hayes, Suwinski, and Endy still leaves a few holes, but lengthens the lineup for the Bucs. I also think Lowe would benefit from playing on grass.
Davis grades fairly awful behind the plate, but the Rays took a chance on Mejia at one time (and Mejia was fairly bad behind the plate too). If he could be an average backstop, his value would be huge to whichever team has him. That said, a 55 hit tool and 60 grade power tool allows you to play him basically anywhere, including DH, which is a nice luxury to have. I'm a big fan of Lowe's. From July 4th (when he returned from IL) through the end of the year, he hit 135 wRC+ and amassed about 2.0 fWAR. During this time, he didn't have any of his characteristically insane hot stretches, nor did he have any ice cold stretches either. He was very good, consistently very good. He also turned in his best season in the field. If he doesn't suffer any prolonged IL stretches going forward, he remains a 4-6 fWAR second baseman with a bat good enough to play 1B/DH. Any team would be lucky to have him.
