Chicago is one of three teams that are over the luxury cap. They are not going to take on Myers and 53.5 millon of his contract.

Well Bryant is gonna get 18 mil this year so I figured they’d be ok in taking Myers 22 mil salary this year.. they could pay 5 mil a year for three years and it’d be like paying him 18 mil just now like Bryant. They’re also losing cole Hamels $20 mil so they’ll be fine.

The Padres would surely include a lot of cash, which might actually make Myers cheaper than Bryant for the next two seasons. And even if no cash came back, if taking on some extra salary for Myers gets you two very, very good controllable arms (plus a really good prospect), it's not horrible. Padres would be paying the premium just to get Chicago to take on Myers.

Pads likely would have to pay 1/2 of Myers total salary
