3I think Glas' injury actually makes a Scherzer trade less likely for the Rays. First, because Scherzer would have to waive his 10-5 rights, and that's now less likely with the Rays' rotation being significantly weaker. Scherzer will want to go to the best team he can in terms of winning a WS, and the Rays rotation has just taken a significant hit. Second, the Rays aren't going to sell out for the WS without their rotation having more than 1 Ace. This trade would give the Rays one Ace (Scherzer), but there's no guarantee Glas returns this year or plays at a high level if he does. I'm not saying it's impossible, but it's very hard to win a WS with only one Ace. Selling out should come with a "high" probability of success, and this trade won't accomplish that. Jones is too good a prospect to throw away on such a risky bet.
I agree this won't happen, its more of a thing for me like "I really wish the Rays would do this" more so than "I think the Rays will do this". I could see them going after guys like Marquez, Boyd, and other controllable pieces if anything.
I'm hoping for Cobb, Duffy or Berrios. We'll see if the Rays do anything. They probably won't.
