10Cleveland says no... there is three players in the deal they aren't trading...
I think you’re over estimating how many prospects are untradeable for Cleveland but Oakland doesn’t need a C so maybe Jose Tena instead
Cleveland isn't trading Espino, Valera and Williams without a doubt and they want to keep the brother together so aren't trading him either. That's three of the guys in this deal...
You’re right about Espino (not in this deal) and maybe Valera. Williams will be moved for the right deal and “keeping the brothers together” is a lot lower of a priority than making a run in October.
Cleveland isn't moving Williams, they are just as high on him as they Espino. Williams is now a top 50 prospect on a lot of outlets. Moving Naylor will hurt the older Naylors chemistry with the team and he is one of the guys who is the motor of the team. You don't move his brother, unless you move him with him. They want to upgrade this season, but they aren't willing to sacrifice the guys they believe are the main nucleus going forward for short term gaines.
Hypothetical question, not going to hold you to this in another thread... If Cleveland wasn't convinced about Naylor as a full time Catcher that would change the light on Sean Murphy. Do you think that would put Williams or even Espino on the table?
I would honestly say no, even if Naylor wasn't the "catcher of the future". Info we have from people who watch Guardians prospects, actually say that the Guardians FO/minor league peeps, have Espino and Williams on the same level of prospect. That means to me they have both Espino and Williams in the top 20 prospects in a sense. Hence why we don't believe they will trade either guy. If I am being sincere, I actually think Cleveland will find a defensive minded catcher to compliment Naylor/Lavastida not spend the capital on Murphy. Most of us actually wanted to find a way to get Langeliers before the season starter rather than get Maile/Leon. If Cleveland gets Murphy, it will because the A's came down and took Cleveland's offer more than Cleveland offered more.
It won't be popular in Cleveland, but I would not be surprised to see Austin Hedges signed for one more year as the backup/teacher for Bo Naylor. Naylor is doing very well at AAA Columbus.
I am not against that, but Hedges is one concussion away from retiring so I hope they find someone else like Maile/Leon who is the guy at AAA to play with Lavastida and help him develop. Also you cannot 100% rule out Lavastida beating out Naylor, but losing a season to injuries though doesnt help his 23.
Fair 'nuff. Thanks.
