This is one of the best Brewer trades I've seen. They give up a lot, but they get the big bat they are looking for and a decent #5 SP to replace Houser. Vesia is a late inning lefty to compliment Williams. The Astros get the big closer they are looking for and a good SP, plus one of Milwaukee's top prospects (Frelick), and Feliciano is a catching prospect. With Ferguson coming back, the Dodgers don't need three LHRP (Gonzalez/Vesia/Fereguson) so they get a more versatile guy in Javier who can start if needed. Well done aautry169.

Spikes

No doubt Alvarez would look good at 1B or DH in a Brewer uniform for the next 4 years, but I think the price is too high. I'd prefer a trade with the Angels for Jared Walsh, and maybe give up Hader and Tellez. The Brewers would still have Houser, Frelick, and Feliciano and still have a very good 1B for the next 4 years.

Spikes: You make a good point. Before I formulated this deal I looked at the Angels and Walsh, but I didn't think the Angels would trade Walsh for for a reliever. Walsh is such a big part of their offense, and they just re-signed Inglesias. Plus I thought getting Vesia was a major part of the deal. He's a lefty who can get some high leverage outs and would help the pen a lot. Losing Houser would hurt, but I was thinking Odorizzi is a bounce back candidate once he gets out of Houston. I'm not nearly as high on Frelick and Feliciano and I think the Brewers' system could afford to lose them. That one is a toss-up and I hope I'm wrong about both of them.

Spikes

I also really liked Vesia in this trade. That was a good call. If this trade would happen, I would love having Alvarez in the middle of the Brewer lineup. I guess we don't know the Angels take on Hader but the reason I'd like the Brewers to make that trade (relief pitcher for everyday player) could also be the reason the Angels wouldn't make the trade. The Angels want to win now so Hader would help in that regard but it's probable that more players may have to be involved. Keep the good trade proposals coming. At least we can still talk baseball during the lockout.
