I would say no for the Brewers until McNeil proves he's not a product of the live ball. When MLB changed balls McNeil's production and power dropped like a rock. I would rather give Tellez, who looked really good in his abbreviated stay with the Brewers, a full shot at 1B and keep Houser. Taylor should get the first shot at LF when Yelich is the DH. McNeil is too much of a question mark and isn't the big bat I think Stearns is looking for if he trades SP. Now Vientos for Mitchell I would do any day.

Thank you for your comment. I figured McNeil might be a tough sell to some Brewer fans. I'm not sure about the live ball theory but his production did go down in 2021 so I was thinking injuries had an effect on McNeil's performance last year. Of course, if that's the case then the Brewers would have to make sure McNeil's at 100%. I think the Brewers will be trading to get another hitter in the lineup, so we'll see what happens. I liked the risk/reward on this trade between McNeil and Houser, and, as you mentioned, the Vientos for Mitchell part of the trade was another reason why I'd give it a thumbs up. Thanks again, I respect your opinion.

I rest my case on McNeil. However, the Mets knew what they have and decided they didn't plan to trade McNeil.

This proposal is a result of another trade proposal that involved McNeil and Houser. I made an adjustment to that trade in the comment section and decided to post it. The trade is a minor overpay by the Brewers so Milwaukee may ask for a prospect or a player to be named later and the Mets might be agreeable to that. I justified the overpay because Vientos is already in AAA and closer to being in the major leagues than Mitchell. Both teams are trading from strength. The Brewers have a strong starting rotation and have Ashby and possibly Small ready to contribute this season. They also could add another starter for depth in free agency. The Mets signed Canha and Marte so McNeil's OF playing time would be limited. They also have Guillorme and Cano to play 2B and Cano and/or Davis to DH. I believe getting a strong starter for McNeil would be a solid choice. I think Brewer's manager Craig Council would get 500+ at bats for McNeil barring injury. Most of the at bats would come from the 1B/DH position but he would also be a valuable back up for Yelich in left, Urias at 3B, and Wong at 2B. It's possible he could see more playing time in left field if the Brewers think Yelich's back problems could be less if he would DH more often. McNeil had a down year last year and had injuries. I think he is a good bounce back candidate. He has hit over .300 in 3 of his 4 years in the majors and his 12.5% strikeout ratio would look good in the Brewers lineup. The Brewers also have good minor league OF prospects so trading Mitchell for Vientos makes sense. In 2023 Vientos could be the Brewers 3B if Milwaukee would rather move Urias to 2B and not pick up Wong's $10mm option. The Mets have Baty as a top prospect and his position is 3B so trading Vientos for a high OF prospect also makes sense. Comments are welcome.
