Thumbs down for the Brewers. Langeliers is only a .255 hitter in the low minors, so there is no upside as a hitter. He is trending the exact opposite with the bat. He had a brief stint in AAA, where he stunk. Manaea is a rental that the Brewers don't need.are not going to risk losing Ashby and Frelick on a rental and a guy who may or may not be able to hit MLB pitching.

I am a little more upbeat on Langeliers than aautry, but I don't believe there is any way the Brewers would even think about this deal. Manaea is a rental and gone next year. Starting pitching is a lot harder to find than a catcher. Langeliers projects to be a slightly above or slightly below average catcher. Ashby has a very high ceiling as a starter. With the Brewers' pitching getting more and more expensive, Ashby becomes even more valuable to Milwaukee. Plus Frelick is a top prospect. The Brewers just lose far too much for Langeliers.

Brewers have a good capability for turning out quality catchers, but Narvaez in his last year would require either an extension or him leaving. And their catching depth has been thinned in the last two years with trades. So either they have to pay him, a FA, or have quite a dropoff. Feliciano at AAA has taken a pretty big step back in the last year and their next highly rated one is in the low minors. Brewers would definitely benefit from 6 years of a defensively solid catcher with a good offensive upside (a thing they likely will need). A's already have Murphy under control, and his timeline sets up pretty well with Soderstrom coming down the line. At a premium position, requires a premium type give, and Ashby could be that. Brewers have the depth to take that hit for now, and returning Manaea would help this year with the loss also. And Frelick would be a nice get for the farm (I'd prefer to swap mitchell, but they're ranked and rated closely). Could add in Trivino or some other small pieces on the Brewers side to help balance things a bit. As a brewer fan, it would hurt to send away Ashby, but gotta give to get. Brewers get stability and upside at a future position of need and a solid SP. A's get 2 top 100 (1 close to ML ready) prospects. Thoughts?

It's an interesting idea and I am a fan of Frelick over Mitchell, so the deal works as designed for me. Are the Brewers going with a 6 man rotation? Just looking at Roster Resource they seem to have a solid starting 5, so I'm not sure how you see Manaea fitting into the picture.
