This is a Rays type of trade. Roupp is best used as a reliever but could be used in a multitude of ways by the Rays. Schmitt would need to play 2B for the Rays, as the Rays have Caminero at 3B and Schmitt hasn’t been very good at SS, but he would be an upgrade at 2B (if Lowe is moved) over the other options on the Rays roster (and there’s still a chance he could break out in a meaningful way). This isn’t the sexy high-upside trade I want for Lowe but it works.
