2I realize that this looks unbalanced, but I really think both sides would do this trade. Cubs get their starter for two years, and the White Sox get the Cubs' hugely revered #2 prospect Owen Caissie, who has a huge floor and will get a ton of reps in the majors immediately. Brandon Birdsell (along with Caissie) is hugely undervalued by the system, and I think the Cubs' 2024 minor league pitcher of the year also has a huge floor and can become a really solid starter as early as mid 2025. Ben Brown is a huge addition here, and can easily become the new Garret Crochet. These are a lot of promising people for the Cubs to give up, but they will end up keeping Alcantara over Caissie, shipping away Ben Brown, and selling high on Birdsell.
Your own comments are why the Cubs wouldn't do it. Brown can soon be Crochet.
