1I suppose this trade works for the Rays. It's not ideal though. The Rays have no need for another ML starter to start 2025 and would have to send Arrighetti to the minors to start the year. That might affect his development after pitching most of 2024 in the Show. A lot of his trade value is based on the fact that he has proved he can pitch effectively in the Majors and he has 5 years of cheap control remaining. I don't think he's a future top 3 arm and those are the arms I want to see the Rays acquiring. Matthews would slot into the field looking to replace B.Lowe at 2B in the next 12 months. I don't know who wins that fight, but the more competition the better.
