7Since Bellinger has exercised his $27.5MM player option for the 2025 season does that mean he is afforded the same rights as a player who signs a new contract and can’t be traded until June 15th (I think that’s the date)?
I'm not sure if Bellinger is the guy to move Bleday out of CF. Plus, he's already been offered a QO so the A's could only wave goodbye (and pay him $5 MM) is he opts out of his '26 Player option. I think including Cam Smith and Michel Otanez only clouds the issue; cash might do better here. I'm not a Susac fan so I'm OK with his inclusion!
You like Smith as a possible 3B acquisition? It’s funny you mention the cash, I thought about it but thought nope Grover will want prospects
I'm a conundrum.
The option was part of an existing contract, so he can be traded this offseason.
That’s how I thought at first but then wondered how the union looks at it, I think a case could be made that it’s a new contract, also think this must of come up in the past and is probably already settled but I still wonder.
The contract that included the Player option was signed Feb. 2024.
