I don't know how aggressive the Rays will be at the Deadline this year. They should trade Aroz and Eflin given both will see big cuts to their trade value in the offseason because of big raises coming their way next year. That isn't a problem with Diaz who is on a long term, stable salary contract. So the Rays are under no pressure to trade Diaz. Also, if they elect to trade Paredes, it's probably unlikely they trade Diaz (Paredes could move to 1B to make room for Mead or Caminero next year). That said, Diaz is 33 and makes relatively big bucks for the Rays. I could easily see the Rays opt to trade Diaz to remove his salary from their books. As far as the Astros side of this trade, Diaz has been hitting 133 wRC+ since his slow start in March and April and has a history of performing even better. He would fill the hole the Astros have at 1B and is on a cheap contract compared to what they were paying Abreu or would need to pay Alonso. Plus, unlike Alonso, Diaz is under control for 2 more years.

Makes sense for the Astros, but Diaz was a 4 win player last year. I don't want to trade him for about what I expect for Jason Adam. I ask for much more for Yandy.

All depends on whether the Rays believe he has begun age related regression. He's been hitting around 130 wRC+ since May 1st (if you ignore his slow start). That's pretty good, but it means his days as a 4-5 Win player are over (he logged 5 fWAR last year). He might be a 2.5 to 3.0 Win player or he might be a 1.5 to 2.0 Win player going forward.

Doubt that Astros would be interested in going after another 1B who is on the wrong side of 30, after whiffing on Abreu. Diaz does not provide a lot of power for a bat first position.

You could be right, but Diaz is significantly younger than Abreu, makes less than half what they are still paying Abreu (or would need to pay Alonso) and has decent power when you consider his overall bat profile. He has been the better player to Alonso most years, at a fraction of the cost.
