2The Quest for the 4th OF. A project, a buy low-sell high type move, one of those that if they work, you're a genius, if it doesn't, well it doesn't matter now does it? For Jays Fans, Jo Adell is a former top 10 pick, a top MLB prospect, and has been in Angels Org since 2017(!). Ask any Angels fan, he's a bust. Ask me. well ya, he's a bust but I see his value. I don't want him hitting bombs, I don't want him hitting leadoff or 5 stick. I want him on my bench, waiting for the 8th, 9th 10th, and so on. He's a defensive substitution. With Keirmaier and Springer as the starting CF/RF, He'll see innings. He's fast and he's got a very underrated glove. Don't bother looking at his stats in MLB, look at his Milb stats. He's got untapped potential and is a perennial "change-of-scenery" guy. There's a 5-tool player in there, but unfortunately, he's only 2-tool in the majors. Running and Fielding. Perfect, I'll take him. He can steal bags and catch balls. All I want. If he starts on 2 in extra innings, any ball in the OF, no matter the height or depth. Game Over. We win. If he doesn't work out? so be it. Roden, Barger, and Brown are all right there. Worth the risk, cause there isn't any. Imagine he learns how to hit tho? Woooo there's your future Kevin Keirmaier. For Angels Fans. Ryan Jennings was drafted in 2022, currently an A+ball pitcher in the Jays Org. He is at Spring Training tho as an NRI. Profiles as a SP, actually had a good first year In A-A+, 2.70 Era in 3 starts for Vancouver. Could easily start in AA in 2024. He is 24 years old already but could be a fast flyer through the org. Strikeout/Contact guy. Idk what he throws I can't find it. I would guess he could land on the Jays' 45-50 top prospect list, whenever those get released. But let's be honest, you're trading Jo Adell, how much do you want? Surprised he wasn't cut tbh. They must believe in him a little like I do.
I agree about your assessment of Adell and the Angels but I don’t really agree with the 4th outfielder option. My hope for him is that he gets released and he signs with a team like Oakland where they are going to stink anyway so there would be no reason for them not to give him an extended look as an everyday player. As you said, if it works-great! If not, then we’ll know and people (myself included) will stop wondering if Adell is some untapped talent that just isn’t getting a real shot to win a job.
