5As much as it would be awesome to get Hayes and Healthy ONeil together finally, the Pirates need a RH that can hit HRs. Orelvis could plug instantly into the top of the order with Oneil, Tellez, and Reynolds and finally the Pirates can get some protection in their lineup against a LHP. Orelvis has worked as a SS/3B in the Minors and is working at 2B early in spring. Powerful swing, easy 25+ Hr and 75 Rbi. He will strikeout, But, he has raised the BB% recently and with that, his OBP almost 90 points. Stronger at 3B than any other position, wicked arm but still Raw. But if you're the Pirates you can afford to give OM 450+ ABs and work at 2, 3 and SS. Still only 22, he's knocking on the door for the Jays but they have a surplus of INF and need to win now. OM is the Org #2 prospect and has been top 10 SINCE being added to the prospect pool in *2019*. A duo of Oneil and Martinez, with Davis right there and Temarr coming soon could be the 1-4 of the future. For the BlueJays, they have a set standard of 3B now after the likes of Donaldson, Vladdy (lol) and most recently Chapman. Defence being Key for the Jays, the organization switched gears to prioritize defence over meatheads. Hayes fits that bill 100%. Now 27, the former #1 Pirate Prospect is entering his 5th season, ready to break down the door into All-Star status after winning his first GG last year. Some say his defence rivals only future HOFer Arenado, they would be incorrect. He's past him. A vacuum at 3B with a staggering 17 OAA, he compliments it with average arm strength. Hayes is a decent contact hitter, he hit a career-best .271 with also a career-best .762 OPS and, you guessed it, a career-best 15 HRs. Not the career highs you would want from a former #1 at 27yrs old, but the defence is the priority here. Hayes hits the ball hard tho when he makes contact. Obtaining a career-best 92.2 avg exit velo. He needs to learn how to draw walks, his OBP is in the toilet. But if he's put into a lineup where maybe he hits 6-8, he could learn to take the pressure off and just feel the at-bat instead of trying to carry the team. Hayes is also entering year 3 of 8 in a 70Mil contract, with a low cap hit and long timetable, which makes him even more valuable in a trade. Given why it would cost 2 top 10 Prospects (2 and 9) to get him. LHP Adam Macko was acquired in the Teoscar Hernandez-Erik Swanson deal. He's 23 and on the 40, but hasn't pitched higher than A+. He has some control issues but when he's on, he is a k machine. Some internally in the Jays system want him starting 2024 at AAA, maybe even earning a September call-up. Wouldn't that be nice for Pirates fans? Having Skenes, Jones, Solometo and Macko all possibly making their way up in 2024. That's one hell of a rebuilding year. Macko would most likely slot himself into the 10-13 area on the top prospect list. This trade makes both teams better and more importantly, the Pirates younger. If Pirate fans don't feel like thats enough, The Jays have way more INF and P prospects they can add like Espinal, Danner, Juneger, Santos. Melean on top of others.
Yes I read it. I disagree with it.
Your points are covered in the original post. Hayes is a good (average) hitter ya but his power numbers/OBP are in toilet and the pirates could benefit from an actual power RH. Orelvis would instantly make that lineup longer and provide a boost offensively which would compliment O’Neil/Reynolds very nicely. Thats all.
The Pirates don’t need to get younger. They also don’t need to trade Hayes who is on a team friendly long term deal. If the logic behind trading Hayes is the lack of RH power, trading Hayes who is a RH hitter who hits the ball as hard as anyone doesn’t make sense.
Did you read literally anything or just skim it.
