4This trade has a ton of merit for both teams, with the Blue Jays adding a 4 WAR player to replace Chapman at 3B and the Rays shoring up their rotation (now and in the future) and catcher. Moving Paredes also frees up a spot for Mead/Caminero (both 3B) in the Rays lineup. The problem is cost. I can’t see the Rays adding salary at this point. Hell, I still expect them to cut $10MM before OD.
As a Rays fan I am concerned about their pitching, the young infielders look promising so I think the Rays should take advantage of the value they can get for Paredes.
These are the types of trades that get you fired right after the press conference.
I understand your logic and the trade makes sense from an on-field perspective. I just can't see the Rays spending more than $100MM in payroll this year.
