8Very funny. Cleveland is not going to bail out the Padres from Cronenworth's bad contract which is much more costly than Straw's bad contract.
Maybe not. But Cronenworth's probability to bounce back is very high. Especially as a 2B. It's not nearly the bad contract people think. Straw's is bad. And you're also getting cheap controllable prospects that are trending up. Maybe it doesn't work. But there's logic here.
The only way there would be any logic in this deal from Cleveland's side is if they were going into a rebuild. You think that's what they're doing? That's rhetorical by the way. Including Naylor in this deal kills it immediately.
They're always reallocating their resources. Lol. So.. Maybe it shouldn't be rhetorical... Lol
If they deal Naylor(they're not) then it will be for an upgrade on the current 26 man roster. They need offense and you want to remove what is arguably their most productive bat last season. This just doesn't seem like something they would have any interest in doing.
Manzardo is probably ready. Naylor is starting to make some money. That's kinda classic reallocating of assets from an organization that makes similar moves. Selling high. Not saying they'd do it. But there's logic to it.
IF Cleveland trades Naylor, they have absolutely no chance of making the playoffs in 24... He is one of their main bats, plus he is the sparkplug in the clubhouse... He's not going anywhere... Truthfully he's going to get a legit extension offer... They are planning on doing whatever they can to extend him. 2B is covered so no way they pick up the bad contract plus they traded Waldron to the Padres...
Cleveland has the AL Platinum Glove winner Andres Gimenez at 2B and has absolutely no need for Cronenworth. The only logical thing here is to hang up on the Padres.
