1This is silly. Beyond silly. The Rays control Springs for 2.5 more healthy seasons (3 post-seasons). He’s owed $9MM per year. In 2022, he pitched partly as a starter and partly in relief and put up 3.0 fWAR. In 2023 he put up 0.7 fWAR in 3 friggin games. He was on pace for a 7-8 fWAR season when he suffered his elbow injury. Now his trade value assumes he’s only worth $4.5MM per season. Do you know how crappy a pitcher has to be to only get $4.5 MM in free agency??? I give up. These trade values make absolutely no sense for Rays players. Oh yeah, this trade proposal won’t work for the Rays. Even if you take out Springs, the Rays aren’t trading Lowe.
