Please understand that I am not writing to be insensitive. It's just that this trade proposal is beyond my comprehension level and I have questions. First, if we use the values on this site, the return to the O's is about 60% of the Anthony Santander value. Why not make it bit more even at least? Seeing as though it's a guy with 4 years of Major League service time getting traded for a trio of players who have no service time and no top prospect ratings, I'd like it a lot better if the numbers favored Baltimore a bit. I ike Anthony Santander. He's a Free Agent after next year, still the younger side of 30, a switch-hitter, able to play OF/1B and I'm buying into this 2023 breakout season. I'm also carrying a bias because I had him on my list of guys that were gonna unlock back in 2020-ish. He's a big boy, good speed, ok contact, and I always thought that if he could just learn to take a walk then he'd be much better. I believe in the gains he showed in '22. I'm a bit shy about projections that have him as a 3 WAR player, but it could happen. All said, if he can repeat last season then the guy's a winner and teams that want to win now will be interested in him. Are the Orioles looking to trade him? I understand that he's quite possibly peaking in value and a more long-term player, especially a pitcher, works better for them. I appreciate in this proposal that Vines and Vodnik are included. I think that's just what they should be hunting for. However, I'm thinking that the O's can do better now for Santander if they're trading him. Are they trading him though? If the team's able to build on their 2023 season and Santander contributes at that same level then they're gonna need him and they're gonna have him in nearly every game of the season. If he can put back-to-back 2+ WAR seasons he's going to be just as tradable for the O's then. I like Jesse Franklin as a prospect. Like Santander, he's a big athletic guy that can send the ball for a ride. I'm partial to his lefty bat, patient still from the hiccup in development from COVID-19 season and also that he's from a northern state. Still, he's a prospect that's further off and not much of that is gonna be headlining for a trade for the likes of Santander. I'd much rather have a situation with the Braves with Anthony Santander starting in LF, Rosario on the bench, and a glove-first outfielder too a la Herredia, maybe Pillar? I'm happy to see Ozuna walking away with his bag of money. However, that hasn't been the gameplan and for as much spite as I have for Ozuna, I'm still willing to give him enough rope so that he can go hang himself. In my eyes, trading for Santander like this is a slam dunk for the Braves. I don't see how this is good enough for the O's.
